“Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.” Galatians 2:10, ESV
At Light, we recognize that it is only “By the grace of God I am what I am…” (1 Cor 15:10). Any advantages we have in this life are by God’s grace alone, including our relationship with Him: the Lord Jesus has compassion on us even though we have done nothing to deserve His compassion. Because of God’s immense compassion towards us, we want to show that same compassion towards others.
Jesus said “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matt 10:8). We believe that one of the most important aspects of our life as a community of followers of Jesus is care for the poor. We also encourage our members to support global efforts to enhance the lives of others through areas like microfinance/development, education/literacy, disaster relief, children’s aid, and health care initiatives. Some of these organizations include:
In March, 2014, Light partnered with One Life Matters to host Shanty Town in University Centre. This involved a week of discussion with students on campus in order to raise awareness of human trafficking and sex slavery. We finished the week with a free concert on campus for students.
